"It was a great meeting, excellent informative sessions, and a very pleasant venue! They did a great job in coordinating the meeting."
Judith Buchino, AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc., Chantilly, VA
"I want to thank each of you [Water Resources Research Institute Directors] for contributing to an excellent discussion on the Water-Energy NEXUS session and the role of the WRI's at the 2008 Joint WRI meeting. I hope to keep in touch with each WRI in the future via your websites and if needed emails. I think the research that each WRI is funding and your own personal research is very relevant to my role as an aquatic biologist with the USEPA and the agency as a whole."
Frank Borsuk, USEPA Region 3, Wheeling, WV
"I am not a professional in the field but simply a homeowner in northern Virginia on Blue Mt. near Linden, VA and at the focus of growing water concerns in my community of 331 homes and cabins. A number of our wells now go dry in late summer to early fall… I am…trying to teach through our newsletter about water conservation as a partial solution.
Unfortunately, there are another 350 or so lots up here yet to be developed and property rights issues will dictate that more wells eventually will be drilled and everyone will end up with less and less water. Over the past seven years we have documented a gradual decrease in rainfall. Some new residents are developing lawns and even installing swimming pools against our covenants and county ordinances. In short, I believe we are heading for a water crisis…
The more I know about water issues, the better I can represent our interests with county officials and property owners… Thank you all for the work you are doing."
Jack Davis, Linden, VA
"The problems and issues are shared by all and getting so many states and agencies involved will only lead to better cooperating and sharing of problems and solutions."
